Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

criminal law

I cannot afford an attorney for a murder case but I was advised by an attorney that I could hire her as a consultant to assist with the case and assist the public defender for a fee. I would like to know whether or not I would be wasting money if I was to hire a consultant.

Re: criminal law

The Public Defender is for those who cannot afford attorney's fees. I have never in 29 years as a criminal defense lawyer heard of a "consultant" in a murder case, or in any case for that matter. Be careful. If you have enough money to hire a "consultant" you may be denied the services of the Public Defender, since they are for people who cannot afford a lawyer. I wouldn't hire this "consultant." Good luck.

In my opinion, anything that would help your case would be a bonus.

Re: criminal law

I have never heard of a consultant and that would only cause more conflict between your attonrey and this "consultant" which would probably lead bad reprenentation. How much can you come up with for a lawyer? or, How much is this consultant charging-- If you are out on bond, you may be able to use your bond as payment for fees.
