Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Heres the scenario. 26 year old male from Illinois 17 year old male from Michigan. Are we allowed to date? I checked some consent laws and a few other web sites and it looks like Illinois is 17 and Michigan is 16? Im not sure if this is correct though, or how it works with 2 different states, or if the sexual preference is an issue. I just want to be absolutely sure before we say or do anything. Can we legally consider dating and can we talk about it or is it something thats illegal? Is parental consent on both sides needed? Whats the law (s) concerning this? Thank you!

I don't know Michigan law, but if you transport a minor over state lines for sexual purposes, it is a Federal offense.
