Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
I was driving down a small residential road when I saw a broken speed limit sign on the side of the road, (the pole was snapped in half). I thought it would be cool to hang in my room so I stopped to quickly pick it up. As I was carrying it to my car a van pulled around the corner and a man snapped a pic of me with my license plate. He pulled up further and said, "that's called stealing, bud." I realized that I shouldn't be taking the sign and told him I would put it back but as I did so he said he was "sending it to the cops," (the picture). I put the sign back so am I going to get into any trouble? Is it even legal for him to take a picture of me without my permission? I'm 16 and freaking out right now. Filed this under the wrong area of law the first time.

I would not be overly stressed about your situation since you returned the sign. You basically abandon any crime you may have been committing. The chances of you being prosecuted for this are very remote in my opinion.
