Drug user being charged with intent to deliver

A young man had a relaps and began to use crack-cocaine and cocaine and weed and alcohol. His house was raided and he was taken to jail. HE came home with his pipes on him so the police arrested him w/ that in hand. Now they are trying to charge him with intent to deliver within a thousand feet of a chuch. The police did not obtain statements from those in the house and did not find anything more than about 1.0 grams crack-cocaine. This young man has a CLASS-X felony already. In this he has asked to go to drug rehab. Is there any flaws that we should look for on the polices behalf? And when measuring is it legal to go through others personal property to obtain the distants from his home to the church or do they have to take a route around? What are some things that can be done to beat this case? Thank you for taking the time to read and answer these questions that are posted on this site. Unfortunately, I do not have anywhere near enough information to give you advice on the young man's problems. I don't know what the police version of the story is. There are a number of evidenciary and constitutional issues that challenge the sufficiency of police investigation, arrest and conduct. There is no simple, clean or easy way to as you call it "beat this case". Your best chance of securing a favorable result is to hire an attorney.
