Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
employee theft question
Hypothetical situation: Someone was caught in the act of stealing a tool and placing it in their car at work by his/her boss. The boss said he wasnt sure if they were going to press charges and the employee was fired on the spot. How long do they have to decide if they wanna press charges or not. Lets say a week has passed and the employee has still not hear anything.

Re: employee theft question
If it's a midomeanor, the tool is valued at $299 or less, then the statute of limitations is 18 months. If it's a felony, tool valued at $300 or more, then it's 36 months.
