Hello. If your criminal background in Illinois is a felony, it will be necessary to seek a pardon from the Illinois Governor. If your criminal background is a misdemeanor, the misdemeanor can be expunged if the conviction occurred more than two years ago. It has come to my attention that there are errors in files in the Cook County Clerk's office which lists some people as having felony convictions when in fact the convictions are for misdemeanors. I suggests that you seek legal counsel in your effort to expunge your criminal background in Illinois as well as with any attempt to obtain a pardon.
