Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Felony charges or not?
My soon-to-be ex-husband was working for a company in Maryland. He apparently took the company credit card and charged $3,000 on it and then disappeared. What kind of charges will he have against him and how long will he have to go to jail if found guilty? Will I be in trouble for not notifying anyone on his whereabouts? We have a 2 year old daughter and I need to be prepared for what might happen. He states that he didn't do it but why would he run away and hide if he didn't have something to do with it.
1 Answer from Attorneys
Felony charges - embezzlement
Sounds like you are taking about a case of embezzelment. Depending upon his criminal history (record) , he may be facing time in prison, county jail or probation. He might consider contacting his employer and make arrangements for restitution. His employer might not want to pursue criminal charges if the money is returned. You have no obligation on notifying anyone of his whereabouts. I would suggest that he contact a local attorney to seek proper legal advice concerning the specific facts of his case.
