If you were indicted you were charged by a grand jury.

If you were indicted, then in fact you were charged. An indictment comes from a grand jury, and then it goes to court. The State's Attorney may decide to not prosecute and dismiss the indictment, but the charges would remain on your record unless an action was taken to remove it.
