felony warrants

my son was pulled over for speeding in southern illinois and the tropper said he had a warrant in a county he lived in seven years ago. The tropper said the charge was larceny and the warrant was only valid in the issuing county and the ones surrounding it. so he let my son go with a ticket and was on his way. i called the courts to find out about this and they wont tell me anything, he has not been formerly charged with anything , how long do warrants stay in effect.

Warrants can stay in effect indefnitely. I would suggest that you contact an attorney and hire the attorney to contact the state's attorney's office in the county where the warrant was issued. Then, you will know what exactly has been charged, whether a bond can be made, whether your son should consider a voluntary surrender and other important issues. Good luck.
