Re: My fiance is in jail

Tell your fiance to ask to speak with a public defender. If the police, the state's attorney, or anyone else wants to talk with him, he has the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney. They are lying to him that an attorney will do no good and he should not believe them for a second. You can call the public defender's office if necessary or hire someone, but do not let him take a 5 year sentence without speaking with an attorney first.

The man needs an attorney. If he can not afford a private attorey, he should request the appointment of the public defender.
