Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Hand-delivered letter
Summary of a letter hand delivered to my friend's house.
Latham & Watkins, LLP has been retained by the Church of Scientology International (the Church) in connection with a series of terrorist threats against Church leaders and parishioners made by an internet group known as Anonymous Law enforcement authorities have been notified of your illegal activities We are sending you this letter because the Church has reason to believe that you may be directing or leading some of all of these actions... In particular, you were identified by the fact that your name and address appear on a permit for a demonstration against the Church. We demand that you immediately cease all illegal activities against the Church. Should your organization continue inciting and/or engaging in violent acts against the Church or its members, we are prepared to take any and all steps necessary to protect our client, including referring any individual, including you, to Local, State and Federal authorities. Sincerely David J. Schindler of LATHAM & WATKINS LLP

Re: Hand-delivered letter
Your friend should immediately retain counsel as agents may be visiting him or her shortly. A criminal investogation may have already begun. See sananlaw.com
Re: Hand-delivered letter
Your friend faces two possible causes of action. One may be a criminal investigation into the allegation raised in the letter and the other may be a civil action for an injunction and damages. Your friend should speak with a criminal defense lawyer first to ascertain the risk of criminal liability.
