Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Harrassment by our neighbor

We have owned our property for almost 8 years. When we first moved in, we planted bushes along the road to block the view into our yard. The neighbor across the street asked me to cut them down because he ''couldn't see into our yard anymore.'' I refused so now, he has been driving on our grass, burning leaves on our side of the street (to kill the bushes), parking his boat trailer over my front garden, backing into our fence and the bushes and dumping grass clippings under them. He threw our metal address plate at our house. I have this all on film, the sheriff came out, couldn't get him to open his door, so, they called him the next day and advised him to leave us alone, not talk to us and stop harrassing us. That was two months ago. He has started up again with the same attacks. We moved the address plate and bushes, but he is still backing into them. I don't feel safe, I can't sleep, I am emotionally overwrought and my husband feels that if we have him arrested, he will ''try to kill us.'' Our neighbor is vindictive, unpredictable, violent when drunk. He prowls our perimeter thinking of things to do to us. What can we do?

Re: Harrassment by our neighbor

At the very least he may be guilty of criminal damage to property. Have him arrested and convicted, then sue him.
