Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Homicide Involvement
My stepson is 17, and as sick as this is going to sound. He offered false information and named fake people as the suspects in a homicide to a father whose son was murdered. I think there were gang ties with the son that died. The father promised him $1000 if he had information. The father went to my stepsons job and gave him a payment of $100 for information with a friend (who turned out to be an FBI agent.) THis was over a month ago. His father and I knew nothing of this happening, but yesterday I came home and there was a business card from the FBI agent asking for the son to call him. They want us to bring him in on Tues morning to meet with him. Can he be charged with anything if he made it all up and truly knew nothing. Keep in mind his father and I don't know what he knows for sure. I just want to know if he can be charged for lying and taking the man's money. Should he retain an attorney.

Re: Homicide Involvement
I don't know why an FBI agent would be involved with a homicide, but your son could be charged with obstruction of justice, and theft. Yes, he should have a lawyer with him when he sees the FBI.
Re: Homicide Involvement
You do not want your son to talk to the FBI without a lawyer. The FBI does not have your son's interest they have only their own. You can contact my office via www.sananlaw.com.
