Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Is this Identity Theft???
I had a detective Knock on my door the other day and told me he needed to speak with me and my husband. So I went to his office and he took me to a room that was video and audio taped. He said that my husbands ex-wife thought that someone was in her bank account. He did his own investagation and found that the IP address had matched mine. I told him the truth that I had set up her bank account access on line just to look at were she was spending the child support for my husbands 2 kids. I was really just being nosie. I didn't open any credit cards or get any kind of credit in her name. Is this considered Identity Theft? The detective said he was going to send the case to a grand jury and they would determine if charges were going to be filed or not. Should I hire a attorney or wait to see if I am going to be charged?
