Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
In Illinois, I was charged with retail theft in 2008 and got supervision and another charge for having my 8 year old with me (I think it was endagering the welfare of a minor but I am not sure, I am waiting for the records now). I got supervision and SWAP but no conviction. Then I was charged again before my supervision was up with retail theft (no other charge this time). The judge gave me supervision again and that was completed successfully. I now want to expunge these and I want to know if this is possible because of the 3 charges close together. I have done nothing wrong since then and I need to find a job but they all ask about if I plead guilty or no contest. I am embarressed to even apply because I know they will see these even though they are not convictions. In addition, do I need a lawyer? It says on the illinois website that most people do this without but are they successful? Thanks in advance for your help!

Because of the retail theft you have to wait 5 years from the completion of the supervision to expunge your record. If your supervision was not up until 2009, you have to wait until 2014 to expunge. If you're from out of state, you'll have to appear at the court date. So it may be beneficial to have a lawyer. I hope this helps.
