Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
In July, my ex-boyfriend took out a credit card in my name, used it and forged my signature. I pressed charges against him after receiving the bill and his admission of guilt. He is being charged with a Class A misdemeanor in Illinois. He is here on a Green Card. He has had more than a month to hire an attorney; yesterday, he showed up without one and the judge issued a continuance.
Will a delay tactic lead to the state eventually dropping charges?
In addition to this, I have had to file for an order of protection after he threatened me on four occasions.

Most likely the continuances will NOT lead to a dropping of the charges.
He will most likely be appointed a public defender if he cannot afford an attorney.
