juvenile stealing
my daughter (age 16) stole a $6.99 mascara from k-mart. they detained her, and let her go. The kmart lawyers sent a letter asking for $350 to settle the matter. We live in Illinois. Do we have to pay them.

You don't have to pay them, but they can sue you. The law favors the retailers. You will also have to pay attorney's fees. Pay it now and save.
