Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Lawyers and Cases

Hi. I was curious, I recently hired a lawyer. However I was told by him that he needs time to decide if he wants to accept my case or not and needs to find out more about me and my case. I'm curious, can lawyers decide whether they want to accept a case or not?? If so, why do they do that? Thanks.

Re: Lawyers and Cases

Lawyers do not have to take every case tbat comes in their doors. Just like clients choose a lawyer, we choose clients. Some cases are not worth anything, or aren't provable. Some clients are trouble, or demand too much and pay too little. I, personally, will not take a case when a potential client has gone through several lawyers. The problem isn't the lawyers, its the client. He's trouble, and he won't listen to a realistic evaluation of his case. Other clients ask a lawyer to violate ethical rules or even the law so they can win a case. These are some reasons a lawyer won't take a case.
