Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

I left a bag on the side of the road with a small amount of marijuana and a scale in it. The bag was out of my possession for about two hours but the police have connected the ownership of the bag to me. I rashly denied ownership of the marijuana over the phone. What do I do?

It is very likely that you will be facing criminal charges if the authorities do in fact establish your possession of the contraband. So, the smart thing to do would be o hire a criminal defense attorney, in advance of any charges being filed. It willbe a lot easier to do now, than it would be to do after you are taken into custody., In some cases, the attorney can make the process much easier for you and then, of course, the atttorney will represent you onthe criminal charges. When I accept a representation under these circumstances I always offer to refund my retainer fee less a reasonable amount of compensation for time expended in the event that charges are not filed.
