Is it legal to own a handgun in the City of Chicago with just a FOID card or do you need to register it and have a city license?

You do not have to register your firearm with the city of Chicago the commonly known as the Chicago Firearms Permit (CFP).
Remember, you must still have a concealed carry permit to carry a handgun for most people. The application process for the permit will begin in January of 2014, with the actual permit being granted by the Illinois State Police (ISP) a few months later if the applicant meets the criteria.
