The legal length of a knife blade allowed in Illinois is 4 inches. If the blade is over 4 inches the person will be charged with unlawful use of a weapon which carries a penalty of potentially up to 364 days in jail. Carrying a knife clipped on the pocket does not make any difference for the purpose of the statute.
