Letter of characterization?
What are the odds of being subpeonaed to testify at a sentencing if I write a character letter?

Re: Letter of characterization?
Hello. You could still receive a subpoena because a letter is not direct testimony. There-
fore a judge may decide not to read a letter. The
rules of evidence in Illinois are very definite
and if a party were to object to a letter being
read rather than the person appearing in court,
the court will most likely sustain the objection.
Will be happy to discuss this with you further.

Letters cannot be cross-examined, so the odds are pretty good you'll be subpeoned.
