Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Who is liable
17 year old caught selling ''pot'' in his grandparents home but grandparents were unaware of any of this. Are the grandparents liable for anything?

Re: Who is liable
If there are any charges brought against the grandparents, they would have to be informed first, of course.
Possession of cannabis can be a serious crime depending on the amount and criminal history. If the grandson was caught "selling", he will probably be charged with possession with intent to distribute, among other possible charges.
Once charges are brought, the defendant (whether it's only the son or the grandparents as well) should obtain legal representation.
Re: Who is liable
If the state's attorney wants to get really nasty, then they can call try to implicate the grandparents as accessories. More likely, if this is a small amount of pot, then everything will focus on the 17 year old.
