Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

mail

My aunt opened mail stamped and addressed to me. It had not been sent through the mail system yet. Is this illegal? Her opening this mail and sharing the info with others has had negative effects on my life.

Re: mail

Hello. This amounts to an invasion of your privacy. If your aunt made untrue statements about you based upon what she read in your mail, or otherwise, technically you could file a lawsuit

against her for slander. Consider the costs, your damages if any, and the long terms effects that this might have with other family relationships, before taking legal action.
