Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

making contact

i went to the police station to change a report because i had lied and said my boyfriend hit me so they charged him with a felony. we went to the first court hearing and there is a ''no contact'' rule in effect right now. but they asked me if i had spoken to him and said no, they said they will check my phone records so then i said yes i did talk to him but i said i was sorry & going to change it bc you dont deserve this, you didnt do anything. what will happen since we made contact? will he get into trouble or will i? also what happens with me & making a false report?

Re: making contact

First of all, you made contact with him. He didn't make contact with you. The court order says that he can't contact you. You did not violate the order. You can tell the judge that you don't want an order of protection. The judge will question you about your reasons to make sure you weren't intimidated or forced into dropping it. Second, filing a false police report is a Class 4 felony. That has a punishment of 1 - 4 years in prison, and or a $2,500.00, fine. Probation is possible. All this does not mean the State will drop the case against your boyfriend. He needs an experienced criminal defense lawyer. So do you. Please call for an appointment. I've been a criminal defense lawyer for 28 years.
