Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Making fireworks

Hello I was recently questioned and consented to let the police enter my home. I was told the ATF had sent them. I did not believe i was doing anything wrong so i let them in and showed them what i was doing. I was making small fountain fireworks to light off myself. i would make them and light them the same evening if not immediately. It has been a hobby of mine for a little while now. I did not know i t was illegal or if it is illegal. I had a ball mill and was using it to make my own powders for the fountains one of which is black powder. They took everything i had including the very small amount of black powder i had just made. I was not charged with anything and have not heard anything in over 4 days. What am I facing if anything. I have no record of criminal activity and certainly did not have any harmful intent. I was not making pipe bombs or any of that nonsense. I have a wife and 5 children and would never consider such a stupid thing. What should I do? Every chemical i had was purchased at the local walmart.

Re: Making fireworks

The fact that ATF knew to send the police means that you are or were in their radar. The facts that they sent the police to search your home means that they belived you would have something or evidence of a crime. My recommendation is if they return do not make a satement and do not let them search your house again. You may want, based upon ATF involvement, to hire an attorney. Sananlaw.com.
