Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
misdemeanor charges raised to class 4 felony
i was arrested on a misdemeanor charge. I bailed out on one hundred dollars. I was told my court date would be mailed to me. When I recieved my court date it stated that I was scheduled in court on a class 4 felony charge. It stated that if the state had to present evidence that officer Carter would testify that I lied to him. Officer Carter was never present when I was arrested. I never spoke to him. It was a different officer. My question is can they arrest me for a misdemeanor, and then change it to a class 4 felony before my first court appearance?
