What is a pretrial for a misdimeanor case, and can the case be dropped at this time by the state?

Pretrial involves discussions between your lawyer and the state's attorney regarding possible agreed outcomes. The case can be dropped by the state at this point (or in fact at any point the state wishes prior to entry of judgment). More likely the state will make an offer of a recommendation to the judge in return for a guilty plea. There are sometimes other outcomes available including court diversion programs such as theft school or drug school. If the state determines there is good reason to dismiss the case, this can also be done. If you have further questions, my cell phone is 630-965-8280.
