Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

First Offense Sentences

I am facing serious charges for the distribution of MDMA (Ecstasy) in Illinois. I have NO PRIOR ANYTHING on my record, a college degree, a great family, I am very intelligent, and I do not fit the ''criminal'' discription. How likely am I to get out of this with a good lawyer? Understand that the 2 day I spent in jail was enough to get this mistake out of my blood forever. Thanks!

Re: First Offense Sentences

I have handled many drug charges in various Illinois courts, and I can tell you that most Illinois judges take drug charges VERY seriously. Your question does not tell us much about the nature of the charges aginst you. How much of the drug were you selling? Did you get charged with possession? Did you make any statements after your arrest? Were there more than one sale? Do you have any other type of record? These and many other factors will be very important for your attorney to be able to provide competent legal services to you. I am utterly amazed that you do not already have an attorney advising you on such a serious matter, if in fact you do not. You need expert legal representation immediately and throughout the proceedings aginst you without a doubt. If you are not already represented by legal counsel, you may call me for a free telephone consultation at 314-727-2822.

Re: First Offense Sentences

The prospects of your "getting out" of this are related to many things, most in regards to the circumstances surrounding your arrest and whether or not you have any appropriate defenses. This cannot be determined absent a detailed evaluation of your case. However, if you are truly a first offender, there are certain types of felony probation that are available, that upon successful completion your record can be cleared. I note that by your zip code you are in Chicago. I am a former Cook County Assistant State's Attorney and available for consultation at 630-243-0099.
