Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

If a party were to have a stolen sign in their apartment, and it was discovered on a youtube video by the persons it belonged to, are the party that had the sign responsible for the cost of the new sign that the coffe shop had to get? And the coffe shop is threatening police involvement. Is there any legality of making them pay for the sign that was in the apartment they rented?

Possession of stolen property is rather frowned upon by the authorities. You should probably consider yourself lucky that they are only asking for you to pay for it before they contact the police.
