Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

What is a Petition for Adjudication of Wardship

I got served a summons yesterday to go to court in 6 days. It is a Petition for Adjudication for Wardship on my son, it says that the minor was deliquent for the following reasons; That on Nov 1st he struck someone in the face and pushed him down the school bleachers. This was a fight my son got into in school. There was argueing back and forth between both children. He is 12 years old. What is this, what are the possibilities, do I need an attorney at this hearing? They don't give much time for this. Please help.

Re: What is a Petition for Adjudication of Wardship

In my opinion, you do need an attorney to help you. In many cases the Judge or commissioner can be persuaded that the best interests of the child do not require a "Wardship". In many cases, the court will take jurisdiction over the child but release the child to reside with the parents subject to certain requirements (like the boy refrains from fighting at school). Please consult with an attorney in your area.
