Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Possesion of Alcohol City Ordinance Ticket

I was in Tinely Park (Illinois) and a cop gave me a

city of Tinley Park ordinance ticket for possesion

of alcoholic beverages, I am 19, so it's underage,

but not minor's possesion. Does this go on my

record? The cop said it didn't, but I wanted to

know for sure. Also I am going on vacation my

trial date, is it possible in Illinois to change a court

date, and or get someone to stand in for me?

How do I go about this? Also the cop never had

me sign the ticket I was issued, what does this

mean? Any information on the subject or the

questions would be greatly appreciated

Re: Possesion of Alcohol City Ordinance Ticket

An ordinance violation is not considered a "criminal offense", and as such is not listed on the State Police criminal records. However, depending upon how the arrest report was written, a record of the arrest may find its way into the criminal data base. To get a different court date, go to the clerk's office in the court house where your case is scheduled, file a motion to advance and reset. They will likely bring it before a judge that day. At that time explain your schedule conflict to the judge and ask for a different court date. Your request will likely be granted.
