Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
how is probable cause established
a friend of mine was being pursued by the police for
an agrravated assualt charge, and they chased him by
his grandmother's house. he never entered the house,
but he ran up on the front porch and jumped off of the rails into an adjacent vacant lot.instead of the officers going after the suspect they forced their
way into his grandmother's house. inside of the house were three family members, who asked the officers did they have a search warrant. the officers allegedly
got upset and started fighting with two of the family members. i want to know if the officers had probable cause to enter the grandmothers home without a search warrant.

Re: how is probable cause established
Absolutely not! In that situation
the officers cannot argue that the
pursuit of your friend led them
into the grandmother's house. In fact
I think the three family members in
the house may have had their civil
rights violated!
