Is the public defender lying, do we need a lawyer?

The defendant was found guilty and he knew a member of his jury, he didn't know that he could have the juror dismissed. Now that he knows he could of had the juror dismissed he contacted his public defender and the PD told him that it wouldn't be a good idea to bring the issue up because the defense may try to bring up new charges in the new trial against him? Is that true? Do we have to wait until after sentencing to try and get a new lawyer then try to get a new trial or can a lawyer step in now, before sentencing. Sentencing is not until March.

New charges can't be brought at this late date. The law says that if the state knew of charges at the time of arrest they must file all charges within a reasonable time. That is to prevent the state from charging someone a new charge after the first one is over, and so on. You have the public defender, so you got what you paid for. Nothing.
