Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
I was pulled over for a traffic stop and was given a ticket for possesion of cannibus. I was not arrested but I have a court date. I was wondering what the penalty will be? Do I need a lawyer?

Hello. You should definitely have representation when you go to court. I certainly do not suggests that you attempt to represent yourself. I am reluctant to say what the penalty could be, without more information. There are preliminary motions that should be filed in your defense.
If I were you I would hire an attorney. Your future is too important to risk taking a conviction on your record, and an attorney should be able to help you avoid doing just that. Pleading guilty or being found guilty can have very serious negative consequences for you. Please take my advice and hire an attorney.
