What are the reasons for documents from a trial to be impounded? I live in Illinois.

Documents and other evidence is impounded for the purpose of preserving the evidence in case of appeal. At the conclusion of the trial you were given instructions on withdrawing your guilty plea and should you have your motion to withdraw your guilty plea denied you would have an opportunity to appeal. Until that period expires, the states attorney will keep the documents impounded.
