Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

I received a summons to appear in court from the county sheriff. I do not wish to attend. What will be the consequences?

I was assaulted in a parking lot in December 2009. The police suggested I press charges and I agreed. The defendant reached out to me several days later. He seemed sincerely remorseful and apologized for his actions. He then paid me cash restitution for my damaged property. Three months later I received a summons to appear as a witness in the case. I no longer wish to participate. I want to forget the event ever happened. What can I do?

You need to appear. If you fail to do so, you may be found to be in contempt of court, which may result in a fine or an unwanted visit to the hoosegow.
