Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Selling alcohol to a minor
My mother was working at a one stop store. Someone came in to purchase alcohol. She asked for i.d. and then scanned it thru their register system. It has some type of program that will scan and verify the age as to whether they are legal or not. If they are not legal, the register basically shuts down and the sale cannot be completed. The systems accepted the i.d as legal age and then brought up the price and accepted the transaction. The police came in and said the person was not legal, although the police would not show the manager the i.d. The manager looked at the tape and had agreed that it looked like everything had been done correctly. In fact, one of the district managers agreed that everything had been done correctly. Someone higher up said that ''it looked like she just got frustrated and hit a key''. Consequently, she was fingerprinted and fired..the manager even called the company that services the register the day before complaining that it was not scanning properly. What recourse does she have and what can she do to keep this off her record? She is 62 yrs old and completely devestated by what has happened.
Thank you in advance for your response.

Re: Selling alcohol to a minor
I assume your mother was arrested. If so, contact an experienced criminal defense lawyer immediately. Since your mother has never been in trouble, it's highly probable that she will not end up with a record. However, if what you told me was true, it's highly probable that she will be found not guilty after a trial. No matter what, you need an experienced criminal defense lawyer. I've been one for 28 years. If you live in Cook County, or any of the surrounding counties, please call me for a free consultation.
