Sentence too long

A friend of mine was convicted 03/2007 for 24 years without parole for having sex with a 14 year old. She was a run away and said in court she told him she was older 18, she looked like as well, and he believed her. My question is, is there any recourse for that decision. He is a good guy and I am sad that he is going to spend the good portion of his life behind bars. The state of Illinois prosecuted him, he only had a public defender who encouraged him to plead guilty, which he did not want to do because he didn't know that he was doing anything wrong. He has never been convicted of anything before and he has 24 years. What if anything can be done?

There may be some possibilities. They all involve appeals of what may be an inappropriate sentence or possibly there was something improper in the plea procedure. If you wish to discuss the matter further please contact our office.
