This is a Class A misdemeanor, which means you could go to jail for up to 364 days and/or be fined up to $2500.00. You surely need an attorney for court. You may contact our office for a free consultation.

You have been charged with a Class A misdemeanor which carries up to 364 days in jail and/or a $2,500.00 fine. You need an attorney. I've been a criminal defense lawyer for 29 years. Please call for an appointment.
Re: Shoplifting
It looks like you have been charged with a state criminal offense or municipal ordinance violation. I would be glad to discuss this matter with you.
Re: Shoplifting
As you can see from the other answers posted by attorneys, you need to hire an attorney to represent you. You do not want a conviction for shoplifting on your record if it can be avoided, and you certainly do not want to go to jail or pay a substantial fine. If you can not afford an attorney, you should go to your first court date and ask the judge if you can apply for a public defender. You need to hire an attorney in the geographical area of the court in which you must appear. I practice in several Illinois counties, so you can call me to see if I can help you if you'd like.
