Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Slander-what can I do
My neighbor has started fabricating stories about me and slandering me. (She has quite a police record in our neighborhood.) The police suggested I hire an attorney to write a cease and desist letter to her and to file a lawsuit for slander. Isn't this a criminal offense that the police should handle and charge her with, or is it a civil matter that I need to take care of on my own? I can't afford a lawyer.
