Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Sold Liquor without ID

My Dad works for a liquor store. He sold liquor to a regular customer. He had checked her ID 3-4 times before and her ID showed that she was over 21yrs. The day he sold liqour to this girl he did not check her id. My dad and that girl were arrested for this crime. Now at this point I am not sure if she was found underage or not for consuming liqour. At court on 12/5 Judge said to come back to court on 01/04 with an attorney but working in a liquor store my dad cannot afford to have an one. He was going to say he was guilty of not asking for ID this time and just pay the fine. What should I do? Also if he applies for a job at someother place will he have to say that he was convicted for a crime? Please help. He is suppose to be at the court next week.

Re: Sold Liquor without ID

If the court advised your father to return with an attorney, then the court likely already determined that your father does not financially qualify for a public defender. Accordingly, he should retain an attorney. It often is not a matter of not having money to retain an attorney, but rather of how a defendant chooses to spend his/her money.
