Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Sopenaed and can't go

What happens if you are a witness in a criminal case and have been sopenaed and you can't or don't want to go? Can you go to jail? What happens if you just don't show?

Re: Sopenaed and can't go

I strongly suggests that you show up for court.

The judge could hold you in contempt of court

and put you in jail. If you cannot make it to

court for health reasons or a family emergency,

you should immediately contact the attorney

who mailed or served you with the subpoena. If

you have problems with the costs of traveling to

court, you should call the attorney who sent

you the subpoena and ask that he/she pay for

your transportation costs.
