Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

statutes of limitation in drug offense cases

I would like to know how long law enforcement agencies can wait to indite you after sending evidence to the lab for testing. If that is confusing let me try and simplify. If you get arrested with a controlled substance and the police say ''we are going to issue a warrant for your arrest if and when this gets back from the lab and tests positve, and that should be in 10 days.'' So what I am asking is if they don't issue the warrant after 10 or even 30 days how long before the possiblity of the issuing a warrant for your arrest is possible?

There is a statute of limitations depending on the crime you are charged with. They certainly will have longer than 30 days.
