Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
I have been staying with a 'friend' for a few months now. I have been paying him a bit each month for the space I take up. He is mortgaging the house in his name and we have no binding contract, IE: Lease. Recently I have gotten behind on my 'rent.' I had to leave for about a week to house sit for my mother. In my absence, he has gone into 'my space' and taken a few of my belongings. I have legal documents from Aaron's Rental that the objects are owned and payed for by me. I no longer live there, and he refuses to give me my property until I am 'paid up.' Do I have any legal right to have my items taken from him and returned?
