Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Verbal abuse of a minor by a minor.
My 14 year old daughter is being harrassed on a daily basis on her way home from school every day. I have asked the school to intervene but since this does not happen on school property, that is not an option. The principal said he would talk to the students involved. If this does not end the harrassment, I will start phoning parents. And if this does not take care of the situation, I don't know what to do. Can I or should I file a police report? Should I hire a lawyer, if so,what exactly can a lawyer do for me?

I am shocked that the principal says
that the school cannot intervene.
The school can intervene and should.
If your daughter's school has a local
school board council, I would take it
to them immediately, or to the school
system superintendent. Now of course
a police report should be made and
the report should then be taken by
you to the office of your local
prosecutor to see if they may want
to bring charges against these
violators as juvenile delinquents.
The law is on your side. In this
situation the prosecutor is the
attorney that you should see.
