Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Victim of Battery
I was involved in an incident at the end of October. I was entering an elevator in a condo building with one other friend when about 8 intoxicated indviduals made some comments to my friend. I turned around to see my friend get pushed and while looking in that direction and in the back of an elevator, I was sucker punched. The individual who hit me lived on the same floor as my friend although at the time we did not know which unit he resided. Police came to the scene and did nothing. I had a black eye, which still has not completely disappeared and it turns out I also had a fracture in my face. The police never offered me any assistance and instead made comments like ''big deal, I have a black eye too.'' I did file a police report. Later that night, I discovered what unit the individual who hit me lives in. Police came back but did not because they said that individual denied it and began to threaten to arrest me if they had to come back again. I have the name and address of the individual who hit me and want to know if any recourse methods are available to me? Can I pursue in filing criminal charges against the individual still? Also, is there any recourse against the police who did nothing at the time?

Hello. I understand how you feel. The

police were clearly a disappointment. I suggests that you bring a civil suit

against the person who punched you. In theory you could file a lawsuit against the known or unknown officers

of the police department for failing

to provide you with equal protection

of the law. This is a very serious

matter, and I recommend that you pur-
