Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Illinois
How would I know if I am being decriminated against?
I am a African American woman. I was just turned down for a pomotion because the manager says that there would be turmoil if he hires me. He says that I am more then qualified for the position, but he does not want drama. I think he thinks that turmoil will come because I a African American. My question to him was, you may run into that with someone outside the company, so what is the difference? And why would you think that? I think that my boss has influence this manager to turn me down. How can he say that I am more then qualified for the position. This is not the first time. Once I asked another manager why she did not post a position, and she said to me that she did not want me to apply. Everytime I apply for a position in this company, I am more the qualified, but they have to go with someone else. My boss uses racial comments about me and about other African Americans. In short, so you think I have a case?

Re: How would I know if I am being decriminated against?
Hello. I definitely think
you should take the following
immediate action....
1. Get an attorney who
concentrates in the
area of employment
discrimination and who
can relate to you as a
client in this situation.
....very important!
2. File a civil rights action
in Federal Court....You
could also file with
EEOC, but they only look
at certain cases, and
unless your attorney is
ready to file suit,
EEOC may just send you a
right to sue letter and
then the clock begins to
run for you to file suit.
I have an appreciation
for what you have been
through and I recommend
that you take immediate
action to protect your
rights.
