Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

DUI, License suspension, and Auto insurance

I had a DUI on 2004, my DL was suspended for three months, and I was put on 2 years court supervision. I have paid off my fines and have my license back. I have just bought a car and need auto insurance. The DUI is not in my driving record. Do not know about the suspension. Insurance company wants to know if I had a DL suspension and/or DUI. As it is not in my driving record, should I say no? If I do, can they find out someway? Thanks in advance.

Restraining myself from giving a dissertation on the difference between a mental reservation and a lie, you might answer "no convictions", which is true. I read the response of my colleage, and I would submit a copy of my driving record with the notation "see attached". Still, this might be problematic in the future if you have a collision in the future; the insurance company might argue that the way they price the premium on the policy, etc., was dependent on your candor; and since you didn't tell them the truth, there is no coverage. So, you are in a spot. Like the other attorney, I can't encourage you to lie to anyone, and I don't. Good Luck!!

You can get a copy of your official driving record from the Illinois Secretary of State. Go to your local drivers license bureau and request a certified copy of your driving abstract. This will tell you what everybody else knows. I cannot encourage you to lie to anyone.
