Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

Illegal Consumption in IL

I got an Illegal Consumption ticket in IL. I admitted to having been drinking, and also submitted to the Breathalyzer. I paid a $100 bond to state police, and was fingerprinted, meaning I was convicted. This is my first offense, and my court date is in October. What can I expect from court? Is it possible that I lose my license? And I was told to have a lawyer present if I wanted to get Supervision. What should I do? Any advice?

Re: Illegal Consumption in IL

The fact that you were fingerprinted does not mean that you were convicted. Wherever did you get such an idea? You did not mention your actual age, but if you are young it might be best for you to have a parent attend your court date with you to show the judge that your parents are aware of the situation and on top of it. You should definitely hire an attorney to represent you. The attorney should be able to negotiate a plea bargain with the state's attorney under which you will be granted "supervision" if the Judge goes along with it, and you will thereby avoid taking a conviction. This is serious because a conviction can have some very negative effects on yor future. Good luck.

You will lose your license even if you are put on supervision.

Point #1: You have not been convicted. Point #2: Hire an attorney if you wish to avoid a conviction. Although nothing is gauranteed, you have a much better shot at a proper resolution with a knowledgable attorney.
